19. Up and Down Weekend for Rangers [2014-11-26]

The Gloucester Rangers salvaged two out of four points possible this weekend with games against the Carleton Place Canadians and the Kanata Lasers.

Friday's matinee featured a hot Canadians team coming to the Earl Armstrong Arena looking to grab another win. With goaltender Guillaume Therien recording an undefeated record so far this season (15-0), the Canadians were coming in as favorites. They got on the board very early as twelve seconds into the game Jordan Larson squeaked one by David Richer. Then just over a minute later Nicholas Mucci netted his first career CCHL goal and give his Canadians a commanding 2-0 lead only a minute and a half into the game. Four goals were scored in an exciting second period as the Canadians took at 4-2 lead after 40 minutes of play. Carleton Place then iced their victory with a late goal in the third by Connor Merkley for a final of 5-2.

It was a much better performance for the Rangers in their Sunday afternoon game as they hosted the Kanata Lasers. In a game that was relied on by special teams as every goal came on the power play or penalty kill. Kanata would score their first and only goal on the power play as Taylor Egan, but that would be all they get. The Rangers then scored 5 straight throughout the game with power play goals coming from Zackhary Salloum, Dorian Dawson, Michael Blacksmith and captain Vincent Guimond. Branden Makara also scored a shorthanded goal in the second period. As of the end of the weekend, the Rangers can be happy with their position in the standings. They are currently occupy third place in the Yzerman Division with 29 points.

The Rangers will be at home in 'the Earl' this coming weekend for two more tough games when they host the red-hot Ottawa Jr. Senators (22-5-3-1) on Friday night and the Smiths Falls Bears (17-8-1-4) on Sunday afternoon.

25. RANGERS EXCITE IN PAIR OF WINS [2014-10-28]

The Gloucester Rangers have come alive; posting two wins at home against two willing opponents this past weekend at the Earl Armstrong Arena.

Friday night, the Rangers hosted their cross-town rivals from Nepean, as the Raiders visited Earl Armstrong Arena. The Rangers put on an offensive show in the game, coming away with a 7-4 win and improving their record to 9-10-0-1 on the season. The game started off very quickly for Gloucester, as Ryan Kuffner struck first with the opening goal of the game at 1:30 of the first period to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. Shortly thereafter, two more quick goals made it 3-0 Gloucester through a period of play. Among those goals was Max Veronneau's first of the season, as he returned from an injury that had hindered him since the start of the year. After a Nepean comeback to tie the score at 3, the Rangers would pull away in the 3rd period. Goals from Veronneau, as well as Lucas Zwaagstra and Joey Fallon, would help make the final score 7-4 in favour of the Rangers.

Sunday afternoon provided for just as much excitement, with the Hawkesbury Hawks visiting the "Earl". Once again, the high-power offense of the Rangers came through early in the game. Ryan Kuffner continued on his torrid pace, scoring two goals in the 1st period of play to give the Rangers a 2-0 headed to the 2nd. Kuffner now has 36 points in just 21 games this season. The Rangers doubled their lead in the second period, and came away with a 5-1 victory in a rout of the Hawkesbury Hawks. The Rangers also benefited from some great goaltending, as Doug Johnston stopped 39 shots in the winning performance.

The Rangers will look to continue their winning ways as they travel to Cornwall on Thursday, Oct. 26 to face the Colts.

26. RANGERS SPLIT THIS PAST WEEK-END [2014-10-01]

Well what a week-end it was.

It all started Friday evening when Cornwall came to the Earl Armstrong. The Rangers found themselves in a deep hole in the early part of this game when they were down 3-0 but then Ryan Kuffner scored in the 2nd from Foget & Salloum putting them in the run again but alas Cornwall came back and even though Joey Fallon got them back in the game early in the third they went down 4-2. The game was well played by both teams and Cornwall was too much for the home team that night. The Rangers overall had a good game and it could really have gone either way if they had gotten a break.

Sunday it was off the Carleton Place to play the No 1 Canadians who have only lost 2 games so far this season. The Rangers were positive though as they had only lost in a shoot-out against Carleton Place at the showcase. Both teams played really well and it was a real nail bitter to the end. It was 0-0 going into the third when at 9:22 of the third period when Colin Kruse, a player that the Rangers had recently acquired in a trade from Carleton Place, scored for the Rangers on a pass from Morgan and they went up 1-0. Both teams took penalties after that but the Rangers held on for the win. The bus ride home was a lot nicer and it is now back to practice as the Brockville Braves are at the Earl on Wednesday. Come on out and enjoy the games and support our local team.

29. RANGERS YEAR END ROUNDUP [2014-03-31]

Well once again another season has come and gone and we are starting to prepare for next season. We had a great second half of the season and when it was all over we were only 5 points out of a playoff spot. At this time we have to say goodbye to our 20 year olds and we would like to thank them for their valuable service and leadership of the Rangers this year.

We had 2 players in the top point-getters of the league with our captain Greg Janz in 3rd and Max Verroneau in 5th. We also had many of your young rookies who really improved over the season and we are looking for great things from them this upcoming season.

One of the things we are most proud of this season is that we had three of our young talented players who received scolarships : Matt Foget to Merrimack, Ryan Kuffner toPrinceton and most recently Max Veronneau who also received a NCAA scholarship to Princeton. We also have Connor McLaren who will be going to Princeton this year on a full NCAA scholarship. Education is an important part of our program and we encourage our players not only to play hockey to the best of their ability but also that education is an important part of their future.

Our coach Sylvain Favreau is always encouraging our young players to excel both in hockey and in their education. He has worked hard with our players and their parents in obtaining these scholarships. Sylvain himself received a NCAA scholarship when he played hockey and went on to play hockey for several years in Europe before returning behind the bench for the Rangers.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our players, volunteers and fans for their hard work & support throughout the season and we look forward to a very successful season in the 2014-15 season.

Paul Jennings, Owner & General Manager

The Gloucester Rangers are pleased to announce that Connor McLaren will be attending Princeton University on a NCAA Division 1 scholarship this fall. Connor was an assistant captain of the Rangers this season and provided leadership and mentoring to our players, especially our rookies.

He then went on to play AAA major bantam with the Jr 67s and then in 2008 he played for the Cyclones of the Upper Canada Minor Midget AAA and caught the eye of the Ottawa Jr Sens of the CCHL and at 16 was drafted and played with them.

Connor played for 3 teams in the CCHL starting with the Jr Sens and then spent 2 years with the Smith Falls Bears. He was captain of their team and was one of their top players amassing 138 points while playing for them. Because of an injury, Connor played only 15 games with the JrA Rangers this season but the overtime goal he scored for the team against the Brockville Braves on his last game which provided a win for the Rangers was a highlight of his career. "I; dont remember ever scoring an overtime winning goal." says Connor "What; a way to finish my time with the Rangers. I am happy to have started and ended my hockey career with the Rangers organization."

"We; couldnt have asked for more from Connor. His maturity and hockey skills made us a better team when he was on the ice. On behalf of the Gloucester Rangers Jr A hockey management, coaches, team members, volunteers & fans we thank him for his contribution to our team and wish him all the best as he heads to Princeton this fall. states Paul Jennings. We will be following Connors hockey career at Princeton and know that he will be successful in whatever career he decides to pursue."

32. RANGERS START OFF 2014 WITH WINNING RECORD [2014-01-17]

After struggling in the early part of the season the Rangers seem to have found the winning touch coming out on top in their first 4 games of the new year. This has been a complete team effort with everyone contributing to their success.

Greg Jansz and Max Veronneau have both found the golden touch and are in the top 10 scorers of the league with Matt Rosebrook & our rookies Matt Foget and Ryan Kuffner not far behind.

The goal tending tandem of Skidmore & Johnson have held the team in there and given them a chance to win every game. The defense has stepped up and has been playing really strong hockey throughout the last month which has also contributed to the recent success of the team.

Greg Jansz, the recently appointed captain of the Rangers says, "This team has seemed to come together at the right time giving us a good shot at making the playoffs as long as we keep working hard towards that goal. We are focused and everyone is giving 100% and I think that has helped us win games."

Coach Sylvain Favreau is proud of the turn around of the team and is committed to helping the players keep this winning streak alive. "Even at practice I can see the new enthusium and attention to detail of the players and I will do everything I can to have them prepared for the upcoming games ", says Favreau.

36. RANGER ROOKIES TAKE THE LEAD [2013-10-01]

The Gloucester Ranger Jr A team this season is one of the youngest in the CCHL. The lineup has 10 players born in 96 and 97 and on most nights these players are working hard and trying to put up a win on the board for the Rangers. Many of these talented young players have already made an impression on their coaches as well as their fans and are committed to improve their skills as the season goes on.

Ryan Kuffner, a young 17 year old rookie, is leading the team with 9 points, and 16 year old centre Matt Foget is not far behind with 7 points. Another rookie, not to be outdone by all of this and playing solid defense for the Rangers is 16 year old Zakhary Salloum who also has 7 points. Although only 5foot 7 Zak is playing great defense for us this season.

Colton Keuhl who played for us this past season is taking a lead role on defense despite his age. He plays an old fashioned tough brand of hockey and night after night he shuts down the top players on other teams.

Doug Johnston has stood tall in the nets since becoming a regular netminder for the Rangers this season and is hoping to be one of the top netminders in the league within the next few seasons.

Other young rookies Tyler ONeill, Ethan McLean and Michael DiBillo have all made a contribution to the team when called upon to play. Tristan Whynot, another Ranger rookie, has been injured but is expected to return within the next few weeks.

"The best is yet to come for these young players and we look forward to seeing them excell" says Sylvain Favreau, coach of the Gloucester Rangers Jr A hockey team.

37. RANGERS JR A SUCCESSFUL IN THEIR 2013 HOME OPENER [2013-09-13]

The Gloucester Rangers Jr A opened up their home opener on September 6th with a great win against their east end rivals, the Cumberland Grads. The evening started out with the lights dimmed and the players being introduced one by one as they skated to their blue line. For many on the 2013-14 team it was their first game at the Earl Armstrong Arena as several of the players are just 16 and 17 years old. These rookies along with the returning players scored 7 goals on 38 shots and brought home a victory of 7-4 over Cumberland.

The opening ceremonies focused on the past history of Jr A Rangers as well as future stars. Benjamin Sardana of the Rangers Minor Peewee AA and Nathan Landriault of the IP Orleans Minor Hockey skated on the ice to represent the future. Jordon Shields, now an Ottawa Policeman, who played for the Rangers from 1988 thru 1992 and is still 2nd in career scoring for the Rangers as well as 7th in career scoring the CCHL still holds many other team records and was on hand with his 2 young boys to help with the official opening. Corey Cowick who played for the team when it was the Orleans Blues was a big hit with the fans. Corey has been drafted by the Ottawa Senators and is looking forward to a great season and the Rangers wish him all the best. Both had words of encouragement for the team before the game started.

We had goals from 7 different players ( Verronneau, Salloum, Foget, Rossy, Zwaagstra, Rosebrook & Kuffner) 4 of them rookies, so it looks promising for the Rangers this season. Although the team is young, they are all looking forward to a very successful year and many of them will be working hard to earn NCAA scolarships.

A great crowd was on hand to cheer on the players for the opener and the players look forward to sending them home happy on many nights throughout the 2013-14 season.

38. Zach Leslie Drafted [2013-07-04]

The Gloucester Rangers Jr A organization is proud to announce that Zach Leslie, one of their former players, was selected this past week in the 6th round of the National Hockey League draft by the Los Angeles Kings.

Zach was drafted by the Rangers in 2009 and played defence for the team during the 2010-11 season. As a rookie defenceman he scored 13 goals, had 22 assists for a total of 35 points. He also had 26 penalty minutes.

"It was a pleasure to work with Zach and to watch him develop as a young player and see him become one of the top rookies of the CJHL," said Sylvain Favreau, the coach of the Gloucester Rangers.

Zach played on both the power play & penalty kill for the Rangers and his hockey skills were very apparent to the team from the start. He was drafted by the Guelph Storm in the 4th round of the OHL draft in 2010.

"Zach was a valuable member of our team and we are so proud of his development and look forward to watching his career in the NHL," says general manager Paul Jennings. 39. Former Ranger Zac Leslie comes Storming back to Ottawa [2013-01-21]

The Rangers pride themselves on preparing players for the next level whether it is college or major junior. When the team had its impressive run to the semi-finals two years ago, many players left for these two avenues including defenseman Zac Leslie who joined the Guelph Storm of the OHL.

On his recent return to Ottawa, Leslie continued his impressive play and though he didn't register any points, he was a +4 during his team's 6-0 win.

He has fond memories of his time spent with the Rangers where he was a rookie on the team that made it to the semi-final.

"It was a great team," he recalls about the 2010-11 Rangers. "It was one of my most fun years in hockey." The rookie defenseman had 13 goals and 22 assists that year.

A few of his friends from that team are now on the opposite side of the ice in the OHL. He chats regularly with Nathan Pancel (Sudbury) and Adam Lloyd (Oshawa) and other veterans from that team.

Leslie's jump to the next level wasn't without its challenges.

"It took a few months to get adjusted; it was a lot more difficult than I thought," he admits.

However, his year at the Junior A helped his transition from midget to major junior. "Just playing in that league (the CCHL) helps."

Now in his second year with the Storm, Leslie is visibly comfortable and creative on the ice and gets time in all situations on his team which is fifth in the Western Conference. He has already surpassed the 17 points he picked up last year with seven goals and 18 assists after the game against the Ottawa 67's.

Leslie tops many observers' list of most improved player in the 'O' this year. In his mind, it just shows the extent to which a second year helps.

Rangers fans and Storm fans alike will continue to trace Leslie's progress as he climbs the ranks and gets into the spotlight.

"There is no denying how successful the CJHL and its ten Junior A leagues have been at paving the way to college hockey careers in Canada and the US," stated CJHL President Kirk Lamb. "Junior A's role is to provide premier development and maximum exposure so that our student-athletes can further their hockey and academic careers. Clearly we are doing that."

Each season hundreds of CJHL players and alumni commit to universities and colleges on both sides of the Canada-US border. Here in Canada, over 780 former CJHL players are currently playing in the CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport), Alberta Colleges Athletic Association (ACAC), BC Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL) and Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA). This represents 61% of players on Canadian university and college team rosters.

Torrie Dyck, a former standout in the SJHL with the Nipawin Hawks, has since gone on to play in both the CIS (University of Alberta) and ACAC (Augustana). "Playing three years of Junior A allowed me to take the next step to the ACAC, and subsequently to the CIS", said Dyke, who is currently playing a key role for the University of Alberta Golden Bears. "I still reflect on my time in the CJHL and realize that those were some of the best years of my life," said the top points-per-game producer of the No. 1 ranked team in the CIS.

South of the border, a total of 578 CJHL alumni can be found on NCAA Division I rosters. Those 578 CJHL Alumni account for 37% of all Division I hockey players. The 594 CJHL alumni competing at the NCAA Division III level represent 27% of all Division III players.

"The CJHL has perennially been loaded with blue-chip NCAA prospects," said Mark Dennehy, Head Coach of Merrimack College of Hockey East, "The coaches understand how to develop these players and are very knowledgeable about the recruiting process."

Devin Shore, who played for the Whitby Fury (OJHL), was the highest drafted CJHL player in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Shore committed to the NCAA's University of Maine Black Bears of Hockey East, "Deciding to play college hockey is the best decision I've ever made. Practices are like games, and games are like playoff games. The opportunity to represent your school and play in front of such passionate fans is awesome. It's a great place to get better and have a ton of fun doing it."

Penticton Vees (BCHL) alumnus, Joey Laleggia, is thriving in the NCAA at the WCHA's University of Denver. "College hockey was a smart choice for me because it gives me a couple more years to develop. It's an awesome lifestyle. It really makes you take charge of your life. You have to balance being the best hockey player you can be along with studies."

Newmarket (OJHL) alumnus, Dan Ellis of the Anaheim Ducks, is grateful for his CJHL experience. "Playing in Newmarket gave me the opportunity to compete at one of the highest junior hockey levels. The CJHL not only provided me exposure to NCAA, CHL and NHL, but prepared me to play at those levels."

"One look at the number of former CJHL players we have competing at colleges and universities in North America and its clear that the Junior A model is working for our student-athletes and their families," proudly stated CJHL President Kirk Lamb.

OTTAWA, ON - November 2, 2012 - The Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) is proud to enlist in Veterans Week (November 2-11) and honor the many that fought and sacrificed for this great country which we enjoy today. 42. CENTRAL CANADA HOCKEY LEAGUE AND GONGSHOW GEAR LIFESTYLE HOCKEY APPAREL PARTNER IN FIGHT AGAINST PROSTATE CANCER AND IN SUPPORT OF MENTAL HEALTH [2012-11-01]

Local Jr. A players ready to grow their "Mo's" and challenge each other off the ice

OTTAWA, ON - November 1, 2012 - The Central Canada Tier 1 Junior Hockey League (CCHL) is pleased to announce that it has partnered with Gongshow Gear and enrolled in the popular "Movember" campaign. In the inaugural year the league raised over $10,000.00 in the efforts to raise awareness of prostate cancer and mental health. The league has found a solid partner in Gongshow Gear, the leader in Lifestyle Hockey Apparel who will sponsor all of the prizing and incent the players to surpass last year's total.

All twelve teams are signed up and will begin the quest to raise the most dollars and grow the very best facial hair for the whole month of November. Kevin Abrams, Commissioner of the CCHL is proud of the initiative, "This is a natural for us, 16-20 year old men should be very conscious of this - they need to be educated and be part of the solution." In 2011 over 854,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas around the world got on board and raised $125.7 million CAD. Abrams adds, "It's also great that one of our league partners Gongshow Gear has stepped up to sponsor Movember - our players love their clothing so they will definitely work hard to raise significant dollars and win some great Lifestyle Hockey Apparel."

Gongshow Gear is excited to align with the CCHL, one of the best junior hockey leagues in the country. Gongshow Founders Ger McNamee and Craig Kennedy (Kanata Stallions) and Troy Duncan, Sales Manager are all alumni of this very league. Duncan, a former Ottawa Junior Senator is thrilled to support this initiative, "the fact that many of us played in the Central makes it that much more special, it's the perfect demographic for Gongshow Gear and the perfect launch for our partnership. Were excited to help anyway we can to raise money for a great cause."

43. Rangers' Boivin Picked for Canada East Selection Camp [2012-10-24]

Great news continues to flow from the Gloucester Rangers who put up an impressive five game home stand in recent weeks highlighted by tight games and three wins against some of the CCHL's top teams.

On Tuesday, the Canada East selection camp roster for the 2012 World Junior A Challenge was announced. Among the invitees is Gloucester Rangers Captain Alexandre Boivin. Take a look at the full list here.

He certainly demonstrated that he was a worthy candidate during the recent homestand where he was able to help bring the Rangers to victory on a couple of occasions including in a nail-bitter against the Cumberland Grads that saw him set up the game winner in the final minute after scoring the tying marker earlier in the period.

On top of being the team leader in points and in the league's top 10, Boivin is also noted for his leadership abilities.

"He came in as a rookie last year and I really noticed he was a very good leader in the dressing room," explained Rangers Head Coach Sylvain Favreau earlier in the season.

One of last year's top rookies in the league, Boivin has progressed into one of the top talents in the CCHL and has been turning heads in the league.

Coach Favreau sees hockey leading him further: "He's fully committed to hockey and we have a plan to get him into college hockey."

A chance to play on Canada East wouldn't hurt with that goal in mind. The 2012 World Junior A Challenge takes place in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia in early November.

The Rangers start another three game homestand on Friday night when the ever difficult Pembroke Lumber Kings come to town. Puck drop is at 7:30 at Earl Armstrong.

44. Lots to be Thankful for as Rangers Win Two of Three [2012-10-10]

While most Canadians spent the weekend trying to see how much turkey they could fit into their stomachs, the Gloucester Rangers were busy filling the oppositions net. They scored 14 times and netted four out of a possible six points on a busy holiday weekend.

Friday night, the Rangers wrangled the Colts as the powerplay was clicking on all cylinders. In fact, it was the new expert pointman Andrew Rossy who clicked and scored a hat-trick of powerplay goals. Newcomer Matt Rosebrook, who was acquired a few weeks ago from the Kemptville 73's in an eight player trade, also scored twice. Highly-touted defenseman Colton Keuhl added another for the Rangers who won by 6-3 margin.

Keuhl is the star of the team's Facebook page which can be seen at http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Gloucester-Rangers-Jr-A-Hockey-Club/278456050751 . His picture has been liked more than any other player on the roster - lots of fans for the young man who is quickly making his mark as a responsible defenseman who can add on offense when required.

On Sunday, the Rangers travelled to quiet Navan for a matchup against the Cumberland Grads. The game started slow for the Rangers as they fell behind 4-1 after two periods. Then, seeing that Cumberland was already eyeing their turkey-filled evening, the Rangers dug at the lead in the third.

First, the speedy Keegan Rowe put one home as Friday's heroes Rosebrook and Rossy assisted. Then another former 73, Stevie Ray Adams got the puck from Patrick White and Alexandre Boivin to get the Rangers within one. With five minutes to go, the powerplay was at it again and Christian Leger put one past the Grads keeper to send the game to overtime.

As the clock ticked towards a shootout, Matt Rosebrook picked up his third goal of the weekend and the game winner to complete the comeback.

Less than 24 hours later, the Rangers looked to finish a perfect weekend against the Ottawa Jr. Senators. Earlier in the day, Ottawa had been named 4th on the Canadian Junior Hockey League's national ranking and the Jr. Sens wanted to show why.

The game remained tight in the first as Ottawa picked up a one nothing lead. Then, Gloucester let a number of powerplay opportunities slip away as their dominance from earlier in the weekend disappeared for the first few chances. In the meantime, Ottawa managed to build a 4-0 lead. Still, Gloucester organized and Andrew Rossy was able to get his team on the board before the end of the second frame.

At the start of the third, Ottawa continued to take penalties and on Gloucester's seventh powerplay of the night, Rosebrook was at it again collecting his fourth goal in three games. On a later powerplay, he took an ill-advised penalty which lead to Ottawa getting a powerplay marker of their own.

Rosebrook tipped a Rossy point shot to close the gap to 5-3 but it wasn't to be. Gloucester's busy weekend came to an end with four of six points and a successful Turkey Shoot during Monday's second intermission.

The Rangers host their next four games at the Earl Armstrong Arena, starting this Friday against Kanata. They continue with games on Sunday, Wednesday and the upcoming Friday before hitting the road versus Nepean on Sunday, October 21.

Before Monday's game, the club celebrated its many volunteers. Come greet them and the other fans and support the surging Gloucester Rangers.

45. Solid Team Game Leads to First Home Win [2012-09-27]

"I couldn't do it without wearing this logo," explained rookie Patrick White when he learned he was named first star.

That emphasis on the front of the jersey rather than the back was the theme of the game as the Rangers beat the visiting Hawkesbury Hawks 4-1 on Wednesday night at Earl Armstrong Arena. Coach Sylvain Favreau was impressed by the team's overall effort.

"We talked about it at the start of the season: it was going to be one of the focuses," he said after the win. "We really played a tight game and were solid offensively and defensively."

Chad Millett got the game off to a good start by putting Gloucester on the board at 5:06 of the first with new Ranger Stevie Ray Adams getting his first point on the new club and Captain Boivin getting his 10th point of the year.

The game was physical from the beginning and multiple penalties were taken by both sides throughout the game, though neither side capitalized on the powerplay. Early in the second, Jordan Gravel-Pilon used his speed to cruise in shorthanded and get a solid shot past Brock Crossthwaite.

Yanick Laliberte got his team within one but Gloucester responded.

"We showed we can battle against a team that likes to play really physical," affirmed Favreau.

The Rangers also responded on the scoring board within minutes.

"Millett got it to an open space, Meyer made a great effort to skate through two Hawks and got it to me," recounts the eventual third goal scorer White. "I fired it on net like the coach asked and it went through."

In the third, Christian Leger finished off a hard working shift with a goal and then the rough stuff picked up.

After the game, White was surprised by his first star selection but Coach Favreau understood the motivation behind the pick.

"He's been really focused on what we're trying to do," affirmed his coach. "He pays attention to detail; really focused for a 16 year old and really mature for his age. That's why he's had this success. It's been beyond our expectations."

The younger brother of former Gloucester Ranger Mathieu White, Patrick White is in grade 11 at Louis-Riel where he's been part of the Sports-Etudes program.

"It really helped my development, especially in grade 9 and 10. Now it's getting to be a lot of time on the ice as I'm with the Rangers this year."

The next home game for Patrick White and all of the Gloucester Rangers is on Friday night at home against the Nepean Raiders. Puck drops at 7:30 at Earl Armstrong.

47. Webcasts Keep Rangers Families Close - By Jonathan Perron-Clow [2011-10-18]

The Central Canada Hockey Leagues (CCHL) webcasting of every game means that the families of players who come from out-of-town can stay connected to their sons progress if they cant make it to every game.

Gritty left-winger Mitchell McMullin hasnt been home to Glace Bay, Nova Scotia too often since he decided to pursue his dream to play hockey three years ago. He decided to play hockey for Appleby Preparatory School in Oakville, Ontario, far away from his home and his parents.

In his childhood, he was also a successful baseball player, playing at the Canadian national little league championships three times a different levels.

Now, he says, being away isnt new. Im kind of used to going places where I dont know anyone. My parents have gotten used to it.

In his three years in Oakville, it was tough for his parents to make the 23 hour journey to see him play, meaning they could go without seeing their son on the ice for months at a time.

McMullin, who is listed at 58 and 148 lbs. but plays bigger than his size, can now play in confidence knowing his parents are watching every game. For the past three years, the CCHL has organized web broadcasts of every game where play-by-play announcers call the game, streamed live via the Internet with a project called Central Live.

My parents love it, says the 18 year old who joined the Gloucester Rangers this year in a bid to eventually secure a scholarship to an American university. They havent been down yet to visit, but they watch the games.

Its not only a nice experience for players, but for the play-by-play announcers as well. They combine a passion for the game with a talent for sharing it.

Franois Barrette has been calling the games for the Rangers since the service started three years ago.

It had always been a dream of mine, so when they asked me I jumped on the opportunity, explains the man they call Frank who doubles as a scout for the team. I love it.

It gives exposure to the players from our league because some want to go to American universities and those universities might watch the games. And its good for the parents too.

Though McMullins parents enjoy watching their son online, nothing compares with heading down to the rink, for Gloucester its Earl Armstrong Arena, to see their son play.

When they get a chance and there are three games in a weekend, theyll come down, says McMullin, projecting an October or November family reunion.

48. Young, skilled, uncertain ONTARIO HOCKEY LEAGUE: Jacob Jammes, 15, is a talented forward who is undecided about signing with the Knights [2011-09-01]

The fans that attended the Knights first day of on-ice scrimmage Wednesday know he can play.

Now maybe some of that confidence is finding its way to Jammes himself.

But he isn't ready yet to make the decision to thrust himself into the Ontario Hockey League maelstrom, at least not yet.

Jammes, a highly skilled forward the Knights selected with their second pick in the second round of May's OHL draft, has decided to go home and play junior hockey in Ottawa rather than sign with the Knights.

"I've never leaned more towards playing in the OHL than now," Jammes said.

"But as a family we're still undecided. I'm only 15."

Jammes is a late birthday which means while most players drafted in 2011 will go into the NHL draft in two years, Jammes isn't eligible until three years from now. Getting a talented player like that is bonus.

But it also creates its own set of problems.

"I'm only 15 and you start thinking about whether you are good enough to play with some of those players," Jammes said.

In his first session he scored two goals and was one of the best skaters on the ice.

The Hunters would like him to commit to London and develop in this area.

"We think he's a great player. We like him a lot," Knights general manager Mark Hunter said. "He can skate and has great hands. But he isn't sure what he wants to do."

After taking part in several scrimmages, Jammes was a little more confident about where he stood as far as his talent level.

"I felt comfortable out there," he said.

"Skill-wise after playing, I feel that I can play with them."

"I thought it was going to be a lot more difficult after seeing the off-ice stuff," Jammes said "It was a bit scary because I'm a little undersized guy. I'm still wearing a cage and everyone is wearing a visor. So I'm thinking another year of development might not hurt me."

Jammes is one of the young breed of players the Knights are bringing into their system. If the talent predicted becomes talent fulfilled, in two years this is going to be a talented offensive team.

The Knights believe Jammes should be a part of it and they want him to stay.

"We went out for dinner last night with (Max and Tie) Domi and going out with top draft (Bo) Horvat," Jammes said. "I talked to Mark a lot. He treated me like a professional. I got to meet Corey Perry, Brandon Prust and Mark took the time to contact me in the summer. They treated me like a professional."

Jammes says everything is still undecided, but the more he is in London, the better he feels.

"I feel a big part of what hockey is about is being confident on the ice, confident to make your moves, make your choices, not being scared of the older guys," he said. "Back in Ottawa, when I played I felt I had some confidence issues. When I had the puck, I felt I had to it to give it to this guy because he's a veteran. But I am getting to know the guys, they are treating me like teammates, making me more comfortable."

Of course, there is one other selling point.

"We're a developing team that's getting ready to win the Memorial Cup in a few years," Jammes said "It would be nice to see a line of Horvat, Domi and Jammes."

He won't get much argument about that from anyone.

49. Hockey & Education Meet At Rangers Jr "A;" Team [2011-07-13]

The management & coaches of the Gloucester Rangers Junior"A;" hockey team has worked hard over the past few years to ensure that the future of their players not only includes hockey, but they have also stressed the importance of education. The success of this effort is evident in four players from the 2010-11 team obtaining scholarships at American colleges. Andrew Creppin & Michael Webley received scholarships at the University of Alabama( a division 1 college) in Huntsville while Ben Curley will attend Neumann College and Ben Iwanowski will also be attending a US college where they all will not only play hockey but will have the opportunity to further their education.

"We; are very proud of the success of our program to promote education and hockey at the Rangers organization,$quot says Paul Jennings, owner & manager of the team. "All; these boys are leaders both on & off the ice. Andrew Creppin, our captain, broke several team records this season and both he and Mike Webley were selected to the leagues 2010-11 All Star team and both were in the top five regular season scoring leaders of the CCHL.

Ben Iwanowski is a big and tough top defenseman and will add toughness to his college team. Ben Curley has been an outstanding goalie in the CCHL for several seasons and is looking forward to the opportunities to stop pucks and win games at Neumann.

"They; are not only a good example for our younger players but demonstrate the success of the teams efforts to promote our players and assist them in obtaining scholarships and continue on with their educational goals. I congratulate these players on their scholarships and wish them all the best as they continue both their education and hockey careers at these top colleges and hockey leagues in the USA," stated Sylvain Favreau, coach of the Rangers.

We have also been fortunate over the past few seasons to have Richard Penning on our team. Richard is studying medicine at Ottawa University and at times it was necessary for Richard to miss practices or games but the organization always ensured that Richards education was a priority and were able to fill in for him when these situations occurred.

The Rangers organization also stresses the importance of education to their younger players, following their progress at school on an ongoing basis. Nathan Pancel, the CCHL Rookie of the year, who recently signed with the Sudbury Wolves, has a 90+ average, Mason Nowak also has a 90+ average and Zach Leslie has an 85+ average. "These; young players are already top players in the CCHL and we are confident that they also will have received scholarships that will allow them to play hockey and get a college degree," states Paul Jennings.

The Gloucester Rangers Junior A hockey club is pleased to annouce the appointment of Sylvain Favreau as their new coach. Sylvain has been the assistant coach with the Rangers for the past few seasons having led the offence and power play systems. He was also responsible for the academic portion of the Rangers program, monitoring the student/athletes and their in class performances. Sylvain came up through the Gloucester Rangers Minor Hockey system and then was drafted and played in the CCHL (CJHL) for Kanata, Ottawa and finished his junior hockey career with the Gloucester Rangers Junior A club. He brings a wealth of experience to the Rangers staff as he also played professional hockey in Europe until 2007.

51. Rangers High On Players Selected At The 2011-12 Draft [2011-06-02]

At the recent 2011-12 entry level draft held at the Earl Armstrong Arena the Rangers selected 17 players along with the announcement of their two protects from the Ottawa 67 Major Bantams, Andrew Abou Assaly and Patrick White.

"Both; Andrew and Patrick have had a great year with their team and are consided great prospects for our club, " says Mark Wilson, head scout of the Rangers. "They; were top scorers and we look forward to them bringing their talent to the Rangers over the next few seasons." In keeping with the philosophy of promoting local talent 15 of the 17 boys selected by the Rangers in this year's draft are from the Ottawa area.

"This; is important to the Ranger organization and I have always felt the development of our young players from the region to be the strength of our organization, and I am confident that many of the players selected in this year's draft will have the opportunity to play on our team either this year or next, " stated Paul Jennings, owner & general manager of the club.

Three goalies were selected in this year's draft (Doug Johnston, Jacob Blair, Gunner Rivers) and it is hoped that one of them will be able to step into Ben Curley's shoes as Ben has moved on and will be playing goal for a Division 3 College in the US.

Tyler O'Neill, Colton Keuhl, Michel DiBello,Dean Derouchie and Greg Heika will only be eligible to play for the Rangers in 5 games this season as they were all drafted from the Major Bantams.

Daniel Disipio, Sebastien Dion, Maxime St Georges, Eric Snedden, Miguel Laurin, Devin Desnoyers,Adam Doelman, Justin Millson and Jordon Gillis will all be trying to crack the lineup this season. They all have talent and some like Sebastien Dion will be looking to keep up last year's stats as the 2nd top scorer on the Clarence Beaver Jr B team and the 4th in the league in his rookie season. Daniel Disipio is fast on his skates and it is hoped that this will earn him a spot on the Rangers.

The team is holding a camp this week-end (June 11th/12th) at the Carleton Ice where we expect most of these players will give it their all to show new coach, Sylvain Favreau, that they belong on the Rangers.

52. Eric Leighton [2011-05-27]

The Gloucester Rangers Jr A hockey club was saddened yesterday to hear of the accidental death of Eric Leighton, one of our top prospects for the upcoming season. Eric was drafted in the 4th round in 2010 by the Rangers and he was looking forward to going to their prospect camp in June.

"Eric; & I had discussed the opportunities for him this season with the Rangers and that he would be expected to play a role on defense for our team. When Eric was drafted last year, he not only showed us his hockey skills but also our experience and discussions with him demonstrated his maturity and leadership skills both on and off the ice. Many of our players that knew and played with Eric have contacted the team and have expressed how much they will miss his toughness on the team this season," said Paul Jennings, owner and general manager.

"He; was a great kid and will be sadly missed by all the Ranger players, staff and our hockey community and we would like to relay our condolences to Eric's family on behalf of the Gloucester Ranger Jr A organization, as well as the executive and teams of the CCHL," said Paul Jennings.

The Gloucester Rangers Junior "A;" hockey club is pleased to announce that Zach Lockey will be attending the University of New England this year to study psychology as well as furthering his hockey career.

Zach, who is from Elizabeth Pa, caught the eye of our scouts at a tournament in Boston prior to last season and played a key role in the success of the 2009-10 Gloucester Rangers Junior 'A' season. Although he was only 5' 10", Zach always played with a big heart and scored some key goals for the team last season. He had 24 goals and 39 assists in 50 games with the Rangers last year.

He was a team player as well as a fan favourite and enjoyed his time here in the Ottawa area. He made a lot of friends and his teammates wish him all the best in this next stage of his education and hockey career and look forward to his feedback on their play this season.
